Pohutukawa - Art Print

The focal point is Pōhutukawa, the star dedicated to remembering those we have lost. To ground this story, I used the Poutama - a geometric pattern (often called the stairway to heaven) representing continuous learning, education, striving upwards, and the steps of advancement.

In the ancient Maori culture, Tāne ascended this stairway to the heavens to receive the three baskets of knowledge.

Above the Poutama, and you will see light glimmers. These glimmers signify the ascent of our passed ones to heaven. It represents the continuous soul journey, and once their time of learning here on earth is finished, they ascend higher to take their place among the stars.
